How a kit becomes an heirloom
Three slow steps.
We design each kit so the gap between curiosity and finished work is short enough to keep, and long enough to matter. The PDF assumes nothing. Two evenings later you have something to keep.
- 01
Pick a kit
Seven complete kits, from a 6-page first-stitch starter to a 42-page hand-quilting starter. Each kit page lists exactly what arrives in the box and how long the first project takes.
- 02
Open the PDF
Every kit ships with a printable PDF tutorial — written for someone who has never threaded a needle. Diagrams, photo steps, and the order in which to learn each stitch.

Stitch the heirloom
Two evenings is enough to finish your first piece. Hang it, repair with it, gift it, or tuck it into a drawer for your grandchildren to find.

A small studio, in Elgin
We design every kit for someone who has never threaded a needle.
Embsupply is a small workshop in Elgin, Scotland — a hand-pieced studio of three people building kits that take the guesswork out of slow craft. Every motif is original or in the public domain. Every kit ships in recycled board. Every PDF is written by a real beginner and edited by the studio.
We are EMB SUPPLIES LIMITED — a UK private limited company (Company No. SC724902). We pay UK tax. We declare the true value on customs. We answer emails ourselves.

Slow — but not still.
Small studies of cloth, thread and tools at work. Each loop is ten seconds — long enough to see the needle move, short enough to feel like a thought you can keep.

From the people who finished one
Small evenings. Small heirlooms.
“I had never threaded a needle until this kit arrived. By the second evening I had finished a small daisy hoop and immediately ordered the cross-stitch one. The PDF is the difference — it doesn't assume you know anything.”

Embroidery Starter Kit
“Bought the mending kit after my favourite cardigan blew through at the elbow. The sashiko grid took me two evenings and now the elbow is the best part of the cardigan. Honestly.”

Mending Visible Repair Kit
“Bought the kids kit for my 7-year-old. Plastic needles for the start meant I wasn't anxious the entire time. She finished the felt mouse — and asked when the next one was coming.”

Kids Sewing Learning Kit
“The thirty cotton blocks came in a tonal palette I would never have managed to assemble myself. Two weekends later there is a lap quilt across the sofa.”

Patchwork Quilting Starter
“Cross-stitch was a quiet hour after the kids went to bed. The 14-count cloth meant I could see the holes without squinting and the chart symbols were clean and large.”

Cross-Stitch Beginner Kit
“Three finished hoops on the bedroom wall. Mounted in twenty minutes thanks to the hardware that came in the box. People ask where I bought them — I tell them I made them.”

Quiet questions, answered
The honest FAQ.
The questions we get most often before someone buys their first kit. There are eleven more on the full FAQ page, including duties, safety standards and gift wrapping.
All FAQs →I have never embroidered before. Where should I start?
Begin with the Embroidery Starter Kit (E-01). It includes four hoops, six thread colours, three fabric pieces, ten needles and a 36-page PDF that assumes no prior experience. The first project takes roughly two evenings. If you prefer counted-thread work, the Cross-Stitch Beginner Kit (E-02) is the gentlest possible entry.
How long does a kit take to finish?
Each kit page lists an estimated time per motif or project. Most starter projects finish in two to four evening sessions of about ninety minutes each. The Patchwork Quilting Starter is the longest — typically a full weekend of hand piecing plus another for hand quilting.
Where do you ship to and how long does it take?
We ship worldwide from our studio in Elgin, Scotland (IV32). United Kingdom orders typically arrive in 2–3 business days. European Union 3–5 days. United States and Canada 7–12 days. Australia, New Zealand and rest of world 10–18 days. Free shipping kicks in over $80 / £65 / €75 depending on destination.
What is your returns policy?
You have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason under UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and the equivalent EU directive. Unopened kits are fully refunded. Opened kits may be returned if the materials have not been cut, used or stitched into. For hygiene reasons, opened needle and pin packs cannot be returned. Full details are on our Refund Policy page.
Are the kits safe for children?
Only the Kids Sewing Learning Kit (E-06) is designed for children aged 6 and older, with adult supervision. All other kits contain sharp adult-grade needles, pins and scissors and are intended for adults aged 14 and older. All kits contain small parts and must be kept away from children under 3 (choking hazard). Full warnings are printed on each product page and on the box.
