Frequently asked questions.
Getting started
I have never embroidered before. Where should I start?
Begin with the Embroidery Starter Kit (E-01). It includes four hoops, six thread colours, three fabric pieces, ten needles and a 36-page PDF that assumes no prior experience. The first project takes roughly two evenings. If you prefer counted-thread work, the Cross-Stitch Beginner Kit (E-02) is the gentlest possible entry.
How long does a kit take to finish?
Each kit page lists an estimated time per motif or project. Most starter projects finish in two to four evening sessions of about ninety minutes each. The Patchwork Quilting Starter is the longest — typically a full weekend of hand piecing plus another for hand quilting.
Kits & contents
Are the patterns original? Will I get a copyright issue?
Yes. Every motif, chart and template in every Embsupply kit is either originally designed by our studio or drawn from the public domain (botanical illustrations, geometric patterns, traditional samplers). We do not include any licensed characters, logos or trademarked imagery. You are free to embroider the included motifs for personal use; reselling embroidered goods using these motifs commercially requires a written licence (see our Content Licence policy).
How heavy is the kit? Is the packaging plastic-free?
Kits weigh between 220 g and 720 g depending on contents. We ship in recycled-board kraft boxes with paper tape and a single small grip-seal bag for needles (for safety). All other packaging is paper, card or unbleached cotton.
Do I need any tools that aren't in the kit?
A standing lamp helps in the evenings. Some stitchers like a small magnifier for cross-stitch on higher counts. Otherwise, each kit ships complete — including hoops, thread, fabric, needles and scissors. The PDF tutorial lists anything optional clearly at the top.
Shipping & duties
Where do you ship to and how long does it take?
We ship worldwide from our studio in Elgin, Scotland (IV32). United Kingdom orders typically arrive in 2–3 business days. European Union 3–5 days. United States and Canada 7–12 days. Australia, New Zealand and rest of world 10–18 days. Free shipping kicks in over $80 / £65 / €75 depending on destination.
Will I have to pay import duties?
Orders within the UK and EU include all duties and VAT at checkout — no surprise charges on delivery. Orders to the United States, Canada, Australia and rest of world are shipped delivery duty unpaid (DDU): import taxes (if any) are collected by your local customs on arrival. We declare the actual value on the customs form; we do not under-declare.
Can I track my order?
Yes. As soon as your order ships, you'll receive an email with a tracking number and a link to /track-order. You can also paste the tracking number into Royal Mail (UK), Parcelforce (international UK), or your destination country's postal carrier.
Returns
What is your returns policy?
You have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason under UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and the equivalent EU directive. Unopened kits are fully refunded. Opened kits may be returned if the materials have not been cut, used or stitched into. For hygiene reasons, opened needle and pin packs cannot be returned. Full details are on our Refund Policy page.
What if the kit arrives damaged?
Photograph the box and the damaged items and email support@embsupplyco.com within 48 hours of delivery. We replace damaged items at no charge — you do not need to return the damaged ones.
Safety
Are the kits safe for children?
Only the Kids Sewing Learning Kit (E-06) is designed for children aged 6 and older, with adult supervision. All other kits contain sharp adult-grade needles, pins and scissors and are intended for adults aged 14 and older. All kits contain small parts and must be kept away from children under 3 (choking hazard). Full warnings are printed on each product page and on the box.
Are the kits tested to safety standards?
Our Kids Sewing Learning Kit is tested to EN71-1 (mechanical and physical), EN71-2 (flammability) and EN71-3 (migration of certain elements) and carries UKCA and CE marks. Adult kits are not toys and are not Toy Safety regulated, but every product carries the required choking-hazard, sharp-tool and age-grading labels under UK GPSR and EU GPSR.
Account & orders
Do you have a UK VAT number?
Embsupply is a UK Ltd registered in Scotland (Company No. SC724902). VAT registration is in progress and the number will be displayed in the footer once issued. EU orders include EU VAT collected via IOSS for parcels under €150 and via OSS where applicable.
Can I order without creating an account?
Yes. Guest checkout is the default. You'll receive an order confirmation and tracking email; you don't need a password.
Do you offer gift wrapping?
Kits ship in plain kraft boxes that look giftable as they are. We offer an optional natural twine wrap and a hand-written card for £3 at checkout — tick the box on the cart page.
